6 Books Every Entrepreneur Should Read

In the early stages of a business you often have to be an expert in everything.  These are some of the books I have found particularly helpful.

Lovemarks, The Future Beyond Brands by Kevin Roberts

Kevin Roberts is the CEO of Saatchi & Saatchi one of the world’s biggest and most creative ad agencies.  Kevin talks passionately about the need for consumers to love their brands through the power of mystery, sensuality and intimacy.  He believes this is the true differentiator for future brands.  Identifying and building upon your unique brand story is at the heart of The Brand Me Collective process.  This book is an inspiring read for any founder.

The Million Dollar Blog, Natasha Courtney-Smith

Natasha is a digital strategist and blogger.  She guides you through step by step advice on how to set up a blog, maintain it and make money from it.

Natasha interviews some of the world’s leading bloggers, vloggers and content strategists, including Seth Godin, Grace Bonney, Grant Cardone, Chris Brogan, Guido Fawkes, Heather Armstrong, Madeleine Shaw and Lily Pebbles.

Your Press Release Is Breaking My Heart by Janet Murray

Janet worked as a newspaper editor for 15 years.  The book gives an interesting perspective on the best way to contact and pitch to journalists to get your story heard.

Easy to read with clear, actionable advice on how to write stories that the press actually want to read.  Even if you have done your own PR before the book is still a useful read.

A Toolkit for Working Women by Otegha Uwagba

Although not strictly aimed at founders this is a great little book full of no-nonsence practical advice from Otegha and other carefully curated women.  Otegha Uwagba is one of Forbes European 30 Under 30.  Easy to read in bitesize chunks with tips on personal branding, public speaking, productivity and networking. A highly recommended read.

Capture Your Style by Aimee Song

With 4.7 million followers Aimee knows a thing or two about creating an instagram following.  As you would expect the book is beautifully laid out with lots of advice on creating a social media presence that reflects your brand story.  The book contains practical advice on how to take a photo for instagram, which filters to use and when to post.  A gorgeous coffee table book to inspire you with your social media.

Jo Malone, My Story

I absolutely loved this book by Jo Malone.  I was fascinated to read how Jo built her brand from very humble beginnings, eventually selling it to Estee Lauder. Jo writes with tremendous honesty about her relationships with her family, her battle with breast cancer and how she felt about selling her famous brand.  A really inspiring read with many words of wisdom for entrepreneurs and founders.
